Hitman: Agent 47 review

Posted : 1 year ago on 31 March 2023 07:29 (A review of Hitman: Agent 47)

Not as good as the original, partly due to the fact that Timothy Olyphant does not reprise the lead role. Also there is a sudden need for blood splatter "on" the screen during most of the fight scenes - probably a nod to the computer game. The ending does leave a third movie possible, but eight years later and there hasn't been one.
Pleasingly the story line is not linear and has several cool twists and turns, but eventually it is irrelevant to the well choreographed fight scenes. Because of the personal nature of The Hitman, the only real thing missing is an extended car chase, but I am grateful for this as it allows more time for the close-up gun katas that I prefer.

Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard review

I'd give it a more favourable review, but the lasting impression of Salma Hayek swearing too often still lingers.

Hitman review

Posted : 1 year ago on 30 March 2023 07:59 (A review of Hitman)

One of my favourite action movies. The fight scenes are snappy, sharp and varied. I like the moral juxtaposition of the two main characters and the clever plot twist it creates at the end. This movie also introduced me to the acting of Timothy Olyphant, for which I am grateful.

Dexter: New Blood review

Posted : 1 year ago on 28 March 2023 01:36 (A review of Dexter: New Blood)

It took a while to adjust to the new setting and having Dexter being more normal in his relationships, but the direction of the series remains as tight as ever and Jack Alcott fulfils his role as Dexter's son superbly. I just hope that they find a way to make a second season of the reboot...

Without Remorse review

Posted : 1 year, 2 months ago on 14 February 2023 03:19 (A review of Without Remorse)

Had time to kill, so I put this movie on in the background, drawn in by the fact that I am an avid Tom Clancy fan. Sadly, this movie stayed in the background - as noise while I got on with other tasks. At no stage did it do enough to cause me to pay any attention to it. Despite the author's name being included in the title of the movie, there was no need to do so as there is no palpable link between the storyline and the book, and any characters that have a link to the novel are "the niece of..." and are similarly removed from any connection. Perhaps this was the movie's saving grace, that apart from the title, it makes no claims to being faithful to the original book.
(PS. I have similar problems with the Jack Ryan series also produced by Amazon.)
